Job Title: Issue Editor/Illustrator
Project Title/Department: 00045192, Support to Reform Process in Uzbekistan
Type of contract: SC5
Duty station: Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Reports To: Assistant Chief Editor
The Economic Review Magazine is published monthly by the Center for Economic Research and covers a wide range of economic, socio-political and other issues on its pages. Generally it is a business magazine, with a target audience mainly consisting of businessmen and entrepreneurs both in the country and the region.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of Assistant Chief Editor of the “Economic Review” and with close collaboration with Layout Clerk and Art-manager the incumbent will perform the following duties and tasks:
1. to bring together articles, photos, advertising, announcements and other elements (including participation in electronic formation) of every issue of the magazine in necessary order and correlation;
2. to assist in preparation of the materials for the “Economic review” magazine: design, photo- and art “look”;
3. to use creative skills to develop the visual appeal of ER;
4. to use artistic approach to communicate a message of the ER materials to a target audience of the magazine;
5. to develop illustrations to decorate or to convey information;
6. to control permanently the condition of preparation and publishing issues of the magazine;
7. to perform other duties as required.
Competencies
• Knowledge of the publications production process and techniques;
• Excellent communications, negotiation and presentation skills;
• Computer literacy;
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under pressure
Required Skills and Experience
• Higher education in design or relevant field;
• At least 3 years practical experience in the area of computer designing and layout;
• Fluency in English, Russian and Uzbek

Duties and Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of the Assistant Chief Editor, the Layout Clerk will bear overall responsibility for the producing of the layout and the design for the project’s publications and will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Making design and layout of Economic Review magazine (12 issues per year) and other publications of the Project;
2. Working with Art-manager when preparing materials for the “Economic Review” magazine and other SRPU Project’s printed outputs (publications, brochures, press releases, promotional materials, etc), if required;
3. Providing assistance in technological process of preparation of “Economic review” magazine and other SRPU Project’s printed outputs, if required;
4. Providing consultations to the editorial unit as well as to the SRPU operations on the technical issues related to the project publications;
5. Liaising with printing-houses on technical issues while preparing publications for printing;
6. Performing other duties as required.
Competencies
• Knowledge of the publications production process and techniques;
• Good interpersonal skills;
• Computer proficiency, particularly in Design;
• Ability to work in time-stress conditions
Required Skills and Experience
• Higher education in computer design/layout, certification in polygraphs is an asset;
• At least 3 years practical experience in the area of computer designing and layout;
• Knowledge of Russian, knowledge of English and Uzbek is an asset;
